2018 Nissan Pathfinder will debut the Rear Door Alert system
Every now and then, one Nissan vehicle is just a little bit luckier than its siblings. This year, the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder will debut the Rear Door Alert system and make history in the process. No need for the other vehicles to get too jealous, however, as many of them will also receive Rear Door Alert (RDA) in the near future? So, what exactly is RDA?

What is Rear Door Alert (RDA)?
A couple of Nissan engineers—Elsa Foley and Marlene Mendoza—developed the idea of RDA after Foley accidentally left a pan of lasagna in her car overnight. Needless to say, the car reeked of lasagna for several days afterwards. If only there would have been some form of technology to help her remember the lasagna was in her back seat. Now, with the RDA system, forgotten backseat cargo will be a thing of the past.
How Does RDA Work?
A car equipped with RDA will remember the patterns of your car doors opening and closing, and then react when necessary. For instance, if you open and close at least one of the back doors of your Nissan vehicle before driving somewhere, arrive at your destination, turn off the car, and then leave the vehicle without opening and closing at least or more of those doors, RDA will notice this and activate.

Does RDA Have More Than One Setting?
The nature of the RDA’s response is up to you, as the system can be customized very easily. When configuring the RDA in the settings menu of the Pathfinder, you will be able to choose whether you want the RDA to activate as a silent notification on the instrument panel, a series of distinctive horn honks, or both. Even better, the RDA system can be disabled either temporarily or permanently, however you see fit.
